Boston Dynamics wants a $74,500 Spot to deliver two parcels. Genius, or absurd?

behindrobotics Short cover: Boston Dynamics Spot doorstep delivery — 2 parcels, $74,500 robot

Boston Dynamics wants a $74,500 robot dog to carry just two parcels to your door. Genius, or absurd?

In July 2026 Boston Dynamics posted a demo of Spot as a doorstep delivery assistant: van to porch, two parcels on a conveyor-style payload on its back. The demo is Confirmed (BD blog “Bridging the porch gap,” official YouTube). It is a company demo, not a named customer pilot.

Reported: Spot list price about $74,500 (The Verge, Jul 14 2026; article body also says “$75k~”). That is the base robot; the delivery payload is not priced in that coverage.

Company claims (labelled as claims):

Confirmed: a 2024 Spot delivery trial in Korea with CJ Logistics and Kia (Goyang).

Our reading: no logistics partner is named in current BD materials for the July 2026 demo. The porch gap is closed in a video, not on your street.
